Twitter, Apparently, Has Offensive Content Policy

Internet Scrambles to Review Distasteful Tweets

Twitter

San Francisco, CA (TDP) – In a startling revelation that has sent shockwaves throughout the Internet, Twitter today revealed that they do, in fact, have an offensive content policy.  The Daily Parodian investigative team has uncovered hacked emails sent by Twitter support staff that reference a ‘Hate, Sensitive Topics, and Violence Policy’.

Hello Daily Parodian,

We’ve reviewed your account and confirmed that it is ineligible to participate in the Twitter Ads program at this time based on our Hate, Sensitive Topics, and Violence policy. Violating content includes, but is not limited to, that which is offensive, vulgar, or obscene.

If the violating content has been removed, please respond and we will re-review your [account/tweet] for policy compliance.

Thanks,
Twitter Support

Internal communications provide no detail on what qualifies as a ‘sensitive topic’ or why the policy includes an Oxford comma.  However, Twitter is clearly setting the standard for internet content that is important, truthful, and kind.

In defending the policy, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey commented, “Twitter stands for freedom of expression, speaking truth to power, and empowering dialogue.  We will continue to provide that platform for all, whether you are a vapid Hollywood celebrity, member of a white supremacist organization, or President of the United States.  The Daily Parodian, however, has clearly pushed us over the edge.”
